MOSCATEL — WINE
Oldest producer of Moscatel de Setúbal. Excellent quality.
According to the owner, they’re ”a family wine boutique.” The production facility and quantity are manageable, but the quality is top-notch. This fourth-generation family business is renowned for its Moscatel de Setúbal. Prices start around five euros and go up to about 100 for a Moscatel that has aged for over 40 years — even the cheapest version doesn’t need to hide. What’s particularly unique is their Moscatel made exclusively from the Trousseau grape variety native to the Jura region, which isn’t commonly found in Portugal.
Their white ”Colheita” offers an excellent table wine at a modest price, while the ”Tradição” is a Sémillon in limited production that would likely cost much more than eight euros in France. For the red Reserve, you’d need to invest around 15 euros, but it’s still an excellent value proposition. You can also just enjoy a cup of coffee there.
