A Valenciana

EVERYTHING MADE ON CHARCOAL

A Portuguese saying about competence in general goes, ”I’ve been turning chicken for a long time.” Could have originated at Valenciana.

Conveniently located in Campolide, the Valenciana is recommended for those who crave grilled food before heading back to Sesimbra, for example. One could also use the restaurant as an excuse for a tram ride on line 24, whose terminus is almost at the doorstep. Reservations are not necessarily required, as the establishment is the size of a football stadium, complete with a large terrace overlooking a vertical garden. Everything here is prepared on charcoal, with most guests ordering sardines or grilled chicken, which has been rotating here since 1914. Everything is available in whole or sufficiently large half portions, and everything can also be taken away, such as the liter of daily soup for €2.50.
