A special alternative to the many touristy restaurants in Alfama. And a top-notch hotel. Copy: Just two minutes behind one of the busiest viewpoints in the whole city lies the Boutique Hotel Santiago de Alfama — on the pricey side, but the upper rooms offer an incredible view over Lisbon. Beautifully done and of course right in the heart of the old town, without being overrun by crowds, deemed by Condé Nast as ”the best Urban Hotel in Europe”. The ”Beauty Bar” is a cosmetic salon where you can book appointments online.

On the ground floor is Audrey’s. Here, they serve upscale cuisine in a bistro atmosphere without frills: brunch in the mornings, light fare throughout the day, and in the evenings, steaks and codfish are also on the menu. Reservations are recommended. They don’t limit themselves to regional boundaries; they serve what they like. Decent vegan and gluten-free options are available. Highly recommended is the tea time every day from 12 to 6 pm: on the charming square, you can enjoy some peace with sweets and, if desired, alcoholic beverages, while thousands of others take selfies at the viewpoint. By the way, from the terrace, you can see the church where Christopher Columbus is said to have gotten married. And from 6 pm onwards, cocktails are served.
