Mundet Factory

EVENT-GASTRONOMY

Good food, a touch of spectacle, unique location.

After João Macedo is eliminated from the TV show ”Masterchef,” he is asked in his hometown of Seixal if he would like to open a restaurant in an old factory hall in Mundet. This is somewhat of a political issue, considering that around 1950, Mundet employed two-thirds of the workers in the area — the originally Catalan company was then the world’s largest cork exporter. Today, only a department remains in the city museum.

The restaurant, at least, could serve as a reason to venture into an area that is not particularly touristy. It’s easily accessible by car from Sesimbra, and from Lisbon, you can even take the ferry and stroll along the riverbank. In addition to a very relaxed view of the Tejo Bay, which was once crucial for supplying sailors, you can enjoy a show kitchen at the level of a TV chef: international, decent, not very personal. The rooms are decorated with originals from the factory, there is a large terrace (dog-friendly), and on weekends, there is often live music of, in personal opinion, modest quality. Also nice as a location for an evening with a few drinks.
