Mercado da Conceição
FOOD — DRINKS — FUN
Like in the Timeout Market Lisbon. With regular people and prices.
The neighborhood northeast of the Tróia ferry sees few tourists. Those who enter the first city expansion, for example through the old gate, will find a few charming old streets and a lovely view over the harbor. Furthermore, it’s a harbor area: rather unsanitized, partially vacant, with an important church for the community and a whole range of good restaurants that don’t stand out from the outside.
The people of an initiative to revive old neighborhoods use a partially used market hall to set up a beer garden with music in the courtyard and sell local products from oysters to pork sausages at a few stands. This has been going very well for a while, until in spring 2023 the mayor becomes the initiator during an ”opening event.” Well, hey, it’s fun and authentic. Best visited in the evening and on weekends.
