Not as alternative as it pretends to be. But we’re food enthusiasts who sometimes think we know it all.

We were skeptical because they offer expensive wine tastings in a prime location. However, they do a good job of introducing upscale tourists and corporate party-goers to wines, as well as ham, cheese, or olive oil. The owners apparently have a background in journalism, so it might be helpful if they didn’t rely on headlines about Portugal’s countless indigenous grape varieties, of which only a fraction remain when viewed genetically. It sells well — and tastes good. The quality of a romantic evening is debatable, but for a group with high standards and interest, it’s recommendable. Plus, they have a dog. Modern charm.
