The short Portuguese version of California’s Highway 1 and a fantastic alternative on the way to beautiful Setúbal. The road climbs 300 meters through the Serra da Arrábida, offering stunning views around every corner. Follow the N379-1 or the signs to Portinho da Arrábida. There are plenty of great photo stops, particularly the Lost Place Bateria de Costa. For those very interested, booking a tour of the monastery in advance is recommended.

An alternative for the return trip runs along the coast with the option of discovering some hidden beach spots. Because of these beaches, the narrow road is often parked full during the season — and therefore closed coming from the Setúbal direction. You can recognize this by the large yellow signs at the city exit. If these signs are not present, take the opportunity to enjoy a beer at Figueirinha Beach, with a view of Tróia and cargo ships.
