Praia do Inferno & Cova da Mijona
HIKING — SWIMMING
A beautiful mix of wild nature and untouched beach.
Two options or a combination of both: from Aldeia Nova da Azóia as a round trip (about one and a half hours total) or as a loop from Pinheirinhos (about two hours). Either way, the paths can be narrow, thorny, steep, and challenging — typical for the Serra, along with the lack of shade. At least the drive is straightforward.
It’s a great outing on a warm day, especially since you’re rewarded with one or even two secluded beach sections that are otherwise only visible from the water. You’ll also encounter coastlines, cliffs, gorges, and a somewhat absurdly located abandoned fisherman’s hut. In Mijona, you can also climb if you bring your own gear and have the necessary expertise. And if you want to skip the hiking, you can take a boat to get there.
