If you’re at Praça do Comércio and feel the urge for a boat ride, you can satisfy that directly.

A shipping company from German Flensburg takes you from Terreiro do Paço to the river mouth and back. It’s less romantic than the sailing boats at the Docas de Belém and less rowdy than the party boats in Alcântara, but it’s easier to manage and can be done spontaneously. The trip lasts an hour and a half and is also available as a sunset tour. In good weather, they turn the boat into a convertible. Before being moved to Lisbon, the boat operated in the freshwater of Wolfsburg — now, they’re constantly scrubbing off rust in the Atlantic. Since the departure is right in the heart of the visitor center, making a reservation, at least in the summer, isn’t a bad idea.
