Praia do Ribeiro do Cavalo
DREAM BEACH — SHORT HIKE
A beach that could easily be in Thailand. A 20-minute climb or hop aboard a boat.
The Arrábida beaches consistently rank among the best in Portugal and all of Europe. Compared to others, Ribeiro do Cavalo is relatively easy to access, so it’s not exactly a hidden gem. Nonetheless, there’s no tourist infrastructure. Outside the peak season, the beach is sparsely populated — and it’s absolutely stunning.
It’s truly beautiful there. For those who don’t want to trek through the underbrush, a water taxi is available during season.
It’s not far from the harbor, so some people opt to rent a kayak for the day. For pedestrians, the tour starts behind the harbor. Locals take a slightly more roundabout route through the village and park near the quarry, where everyone else parks. Then it’s through the underbrush – which is why it’s best to inflate your beach toys once you’re down there. The path is manageable even for younger children.
