Mercado da Romeira
STREET FOOD MEETS LIVE MUSIC
A real alternative to the hyped street food markets.
The former docklands of Cova da Piedade may not resist gentrification much longer. A taste of the monstrous plans with a marina and all that is the cork factory Romeira, redesigned as a food court. Perhaps an authentic version of Lisbon’s Time Out Market, although here you’ll find hardly any tourists but rather some tendentially nouveau riche hanging around. There are around a dozen gastronomic offerings around a large courtyard where children are allowed to run around — or be placated with really good ice cream. On weekends, there’s live entertainment in the evenings, and it’s definitely good for a drink or two. Don’t be surprised if your GPS directs you into what feels like nowhere when turning into the roundabout. Also, Tia Bé is right next door.
