Mercado da Baixa

EAT — DRINK — ENJOY

The worthwhile version of a tourist trap.

At Praça da Figueria, usually during holidays and in the tourist season (check the website for details), you’ll find an array of crafts and food stalls. You’ll mostly encounter tourists here, with Portuguese folks typically found behind the counters, but that’s okay for a change. If you want to play tourist in Lisbon, this is the place to be. You can enjoy sangria, beer, wine, and countless specialties from all over the country. Everything is overpriced, but it doesn’t matter. Just sit under the statue of John I, recharge your batteries, and in the end, it’s often better and cheaper than any restaurant in the area.
