Tia Bé
CACHUPA — FEIJOADA — MOQUECA
A prime spot for Portuguese with African roots on the south side of Lisbon, and another recommendation for Portuguese multiculturalism.
For instance, it’s a great idea if you’ve crossed over to the capital from Cacilhas and find yourself hungry on the ferry. It feels a bit like a crowded gymnasium, but to keep things in check, there are fixed-price menus — whether you order one or three beers tends to be inconsequential.
They’ve easily adapted to Portuguese culinary concepts, but the main draw is the wall-adorned national dishes from Angola, Brazil, and Mozambique. Mostly hearty stews with unconventional ingredients. Communicate in English with gestures; it works. A reservation might help, or else you might find yourself squeezed in. Before or after, grab a drink at Mercado da Romeira.
